After his father’s death Cedric Errol receives a summons from his rich, aristocratic grandfather to leave New York, and his beloved mother, to live with him in England. An unlikely and endearing relationship ensues between the egalitarian little boy and his proud old grandfather with plenty of twists and turns to the story of inheritance and fraud. Like many novels of the era, the book was published in serialised form in the late 1880s and according to Polly Hovarth Little Lord Fauntleroy “was the Harry Potter of his time and Frances Hodgson Burnett was as celebrated for creating him as J. K. Rowling is for Potter”.
